  TAFT Record Club, No. 6: Springtime

  

  Washington, D.C. didn’t have much of a spring, though what little we did have, the TAFT crew celebrated with Amanda’s veggie lasagna, Mehan’s garlic lover’s garlic bread, and spring-inspired tunes. Then, as usual, we devolved in cute videos of animals on YouTube.

  TAFT Record Club, No. 5: Slow Your Roll

  

  TAFT #5 was perhaps the most elaborate edition of TAFT Record Club yet. The day began with a screening of the Lil Wayne documentary The Carter, replete with faux “purple drank”. Afterward, meats were grilled and consumed as the formal TAFT process commenced. As the night wore on, some participants were moved to dance by a number of the below selections. The evening drew to a close with a spirited discussion of—what else?—Tyler the Creator’s newly-released Goblin.

  TAFT Record Club, No. 3: High School

  

  

  

  Finally stepping outside an alcohol theme (though we certainly continued that tradition with “fruity beers” that a couple of us flat-out refused to participate in), TAFT and its members tackled music from high school (the late ’90s, for most of us, at least). This included everything from revelatory common experiences (Foo Fighters’ Colour and the Shape inspired texts to parents and siblings), discoveries of old records that changed everything (My Bloody Valentine, Brian Eno), and cringe-worthy music that was as bad as it was revealing (“I like to eat hamburgers with you on Sunday afternoons”). Also, Mehan and Lars played a lot of emo.

  TAFT meeting no. 2 was a rousing success, despite the absence of one founding member and a painfully long wait for pizza delivery. This time around, the music selections were paired with Belgian-style ales which, like the night’s music selections, ran the gamut of styles and regions.
